Donald "Corky" Mitchell, founder and CEO, started The Concept Factory to bring military discipline and straight talk to the everyday problems that cost organizations money.
A 1981 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, Donald served as a U.S. Air Force officer, rising to the rank of Major. He flew the MH-53 Pave Low special operations helicopter, the second African American in history to do so. Flying with the 20th Special Operations Squadron in Desert Storm, he landed the first U.S. helicopter as flight lead in Kuwait City. His Desert Storm service is recorded in Robert Ewell Greene's history, Black Defenders of the Persian Gulf War: Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After the Air Force he spent years in education as a middle school Dean of Students.
Donald is a service-disabled veteran, and The Concept Factory's first product grew out of his own experience as a patient: he saw firsthand how much paperwork stands between veterans and the travel reimbursement they're owed. He builds every Concept Factory product the same way he flew: simple, dependable, and mission-focused.
